Tips To Be More Productive

  1. Have a Plan

One of the most important things you need to do when you are looking to be more productive is to have a plan. Aim to get to your desk a minimum of 15 minutes before you clock in. During this time, you can spend it coming up with tasks that you want to complete throughout the day. Use a work schedule maker to help with planning. This can give you something to hone in on throughout the day. You’ll be able to prioritize all of the tasks you have and figure out the best order in which to complete them.

  1. Power Hour

Always commit to your work during your scheduled power hour. Power hour should be the first hour of every workday. This is the hour where you should have the highest level of intensity and focus. You want to try to get as much done as possible during this hour. Try to avoid anything that could be considered a time-waster. This includes checking your email, checking your favorite websites, and even your social media. Allow yourself to start the day completely focused. This can keep you on the right track to being highly productive from the start.

  1. Recess

Whenever you were a kid, you likely loved going outside for recess. A lot of kids loved going out for recess much more than they enjoyed school. We know how important it is to get breaks throughout the day at a young age. However, the same is true for you the older you get. It’s better to give yourself some breaks throughout the day to improve your performance during periods of intense focus. Allowing yourself to relax throughout the day and setting off time to allow yourself to be distracted is key. This can help to give you the energy you need to power through the rest of the day and finish strong.

  1. Break Everything Into Time Segments

A good thing you can do is to allocate your time to specific tasks. If you find a task repetitive and boring, you’re likely to be unmotivated to complete it. Because of this, you should look to split these tasks into smaller time allotments. Then, you can add other more motivating tasks to break them up. This can give you the ability to reenergize yourself while continuing to work. Alternate back and further with your tasks and it can help to keep you fully productive.

  1. Use The Clock

Instead of working on a single task until it’s done to completion, you’ll want to set a specific amount of time that you are willing to dedicate to it. That way, you can shift your focus when the timer goes off. This can keep you much more productive and help to keep you from getting stagnant or complacent with whatever you are doing.

  1. Organize Your Emails

A lot of people end up wasting too much time on their emails. One of the main reasons for this has to do with having a cluttered and unorganized email inbox. This can cause you to spend more time looking for things than actually doing them. Try to organize your inbox with folders. This can keep you minimizing the total time spent looking for important emails rather than responding to them. Ideally, you want to strive for Inbox Zero at the end of the day. However, this is a tall task for many. Because of this, a good goal would be to have zero emails in your inbox by Friday each week.

  1. Play Some Tunes

Believe it or not, playing music in the background can do wonders for your focus. By playing quiet and calming background music, you can get rid of excess noise in the workplace. This can help to drown out anything that would otherwise cause disruption. You want to find a genre of music that is going to add to your focus and not detract from it. A good option would be classical music. It’s even proven to enhance your IQ.

  1. Drink

When you are looking to improve your performance whether physically or mentally, one of the most important things you can do is get adequate hydration. You need to continue to drink water throughout the day for your health. Keeping water at your desk is one of the best ways to improve your productivity for several reasons. Not only will you keep yourself from having to get up all of the time, but you can ensure you are always optimally hydrated which can improve brain performance and energy levels.

  1. Leave Your Desk

A lot of people make a habit of having lunch at their desks. Try to avoid this if possible. Instead, use your lunch break as a way to get away from the workplace. Allow yourself to go outside and get some fresh air. This can re-energize you and set you up for good productivity once you get back in the office.

  1. Keep Things Professional

You need to stick to working during work hours. Try to respond to any personal calls or texts on your breaks. Separate your work time from your time. This can keep you focused and on task. Tell anyone who regularly contacts you to avoid doing so during work hours unless it’s an emergency. This can keep you from getting distracted throughout the workday.
