When you digest such strong aromatic foods, their particles enter the bloodstream and then end up in the lungs, due to which a person may suffer from bad breath.

2)   Intake of tobacco products:

Smoking cigarettes can cause an unpleasant mouth odour. Excessive smokers are prone to gum diseases. Deterioration of gums caused by tobacco intake can also induce bad breath in many heavy cigarette smokers.

3)   Inadequate dental care:

If someone practices poor dental hygiene, they are more at risk for problems like bad breath. Due to inadequate brushing, food particles stay stuck in the teeth and cause mouth odour. If not washed away with the help of brushing, flossing, or use of mouthwash, a colourless and sticky film of bacteria grows on the surface of teeth and intensifies the bad breath. The sticky film of bacteria, also known as plaque, affects the health of the gums and causes bleeding, weakening of the teeth, and cavities.

4)   Dry mouth:

The production of saliva helps in washing away the food particles that are responsible for bad breath. If due to any reason, there is a reduction in the quantity of saliva, it can lead to the production of a bad mouth odour. Dry mouth is a condition in which there is not enough saliva production. It often happens during sleeping, which is why “morning breath” happens. If you drink enough water and keep yourself hydrated, dry mouth can be avoided.

5)   Intake of certain medications:

Certain medications can directly induce bad breath. Moreover, such medications also contribute to the breakdown of chemicals that are carried into the breath and cause odour formation.
